It is widely believed that we have all lived before. The stored knowledge of these past lives can contribute to, and affect, our present one. By Hypnotherapist Steve Burgess

You only live once, right?

An unimposing East Yorkshire house is perhaps not the most likely meeting place for Tudor sisters Elizabeth I and Mary I (Bloody Mary). But that’s exactly what happened when local man Steve Burgess, one of the UK’s most experienced clinical hypnotherapists and founder of Beverley Natural Therapy Centre, brought together two of his Past Life Regression (PLR) clients, each of whom appear to have lived a previous life as a member of this most famous historical family.

“I was very excited to see how they’d react to one another in this life time, some 400 years after they were last together. Would they feel some kind of connection?” commented Steve. However, the meeting was not at all as he had anticipated. The two women were very frosty towards one another, which surprised Steve. “However, the underlying reason became clear – the bitterness in their relationship in those past lives had carried through to this one. So much so that even though they’d never met one another in current times, they felt an instant resentment and disliking for one another.”

And whilst not every one who undergoes PLR therapy can lay claim to such lofty past lives, it is those experiences that form the basis of Steve’s first book, Famous Past Lives, which details the memories of their former famous ‘alter egos’, revealing many details known only to historians, such as little-known factsabout ‘the Virgin Queen’s’ affair with Robert Dudley. Whist under regression, the client not only experienced the intimate side of their relationship, but also went on to relive the birth of their love child!

“I only ask basic questions such as ‘where are you now?’ so as to not make suggestions that become ‘memories’. Each PLR session is different – I never know where a client’s subconscious will take them and which past life we will end up in!” continued Steve.

Other famous lives uncovered in the book include a victim of the notorious Jack the Ripper, an airman from the Dambusters raid and one of the intrepid explorers from the Scott of the Antarctic expedition. Perhaps one of the most surprising is a retired boxer, who left school with no formal qualifications and appears to have lived a former life as William Shakespeare. It’s highly unlikely that he could have known this level of detail about the Bard – including knowledge of an extra-marital affair – if he hadn’t actually have been him in a former life.

Steve, who first became involved in hypnotherapy in the late 1980s when his father successfully gave up smoking using hypnotherapy, has completed many thousands of past life regressions – many of them of course being very mundane lives.

It is widely believed that we have all lived before. The stored knowledge of these past lives can contribute to, and affect, our present one. Past life regression therapy can help us relive a previous incarnation. PLR can be used to treat the underlying issues associated withmany conditions including anxiety and phobias, stress, weight problems and lack of confidence.

by Mandy Burton

When I started on this path I am now on, my one goal was to cure myself of all my ills and in so doing to find the real “me”. And that was it really. Fortunately for me, Spirit had other ideas. After several years of exploration I knew that there were two things that rocked my world; one was Past Life work and the other Psychic Surgery, which is a story for another day.

Growing up, people would tell me how talented I was because I am musical and could play several instruments. I don’t but I can. Also artistic, which in some ways I have kept up. Being “arty crafty” as my Mother would call it meant I was hugely visual and I believe this is at the core of my past life work.

I must pay homage here to Judy Hall for it was her book, “Deja Who?” which piqued my interest in past lives and started me reading as much as I could find around the subject, which back then, wasn’t much. I started in a tentative way, learning a regression technique which was part of an ongoing series or Holistic Retuning courses. Having learnt the basics, I discovered that I could go in and out of past lives almost at will. A lot of the time it was like living in a parallel reality except that it was always different. I took every chance I could to be regressed and to regress my friends and family, learning all the time.

It is one of my most deeply seated beliefs that to have got to this point in this life and to be questioning in the way that so many of us are, that we have to have experienced a lot of what this great school of life has to offer us. So we have had the good life but also the not so good. We have been victim. We have also been perpetrator. In everything. So over all these lives we have been lied to and cheated, for example but we have also been the liar and the cheat. And worse of course. So all the good stuff but also all the bad. How else could we learn all our life lessons? Sometimes we have come in and missed out on the lesson, after all we live in a free choice, free will world. And then we repeat, not a life but a learning experience. We have lived a whole gamut of things, of emotions, of wounds, disabilities, both mental and physical and we have come to this point. Here and now.

So how can these past experiences help us this time around? Perhaps what you are shown has some bearing on what is going on. Perhaps you received a wound that is impacting on this life. Sometimes we are just shown that there is a different, maybe better way to be. Possibly it’s just interesting. But what is amazing is the eternal journey of the eternal soul. For whatever happens to the mind, body and spirit, we are certain that the soul does go on.

For me, and again this is my personal belief, I think that I have lived hundreds of lives, often in multiples and in other dimensions. I’ve looked at lives going back to Lemuria, before Atlantis and throughout the ages and seen some wonderful things. I’ve also seen some pretty awful things. The trick is to remember that although these things happened you were someone else at the time and they have no power to harm you now. They might make you think but that’s a good thing.

Another of my abiding beliefs is that all of time is happening in this instant, now. After all time is a man made concept. So all our past lives are happening at the same time as this one. And so are our parallel and future lives in whatever dimension they are. So really all our lives are parallel, it’s just easier to think and talk about them as past or future, it makes things much less confusing.

I find that now when I give a reiki session, well that I don’t really do a reiki session as such any more, instead I work on the lives that present themselves to me or to my client. Often the lives we see in this situation are violent and bloody; after all in a healing situation it is an excellent time to heal the wound that has been carried through to this life or that is impacting on this life. This is where psychic surgery comes into its own with quite remarkable results making this a really brilliant way of using past life knowledge and giving my client a real informative healing session.

Using a regression technique can also have good results although sometimes people are disappointed that they weren’t Napoleon or Cleopatra, and that at first the regression can seem very mundane and the life viewed very pedestrian. Maybe somewhere along the way, we miss the point, or misread the life lesson. And then later, a few days or even a few months, the penny drops and something slots into place.

Another way of using past lives is in investigation, the beauty of this being that the work can be done remotely. Using Phoenix Cards as a starting point can be a help but is not always necessary. This way allows the client to send a list of questions to ask, for example “is my Mum in this life in any of my past lives”. It is always exciting when family members bobs up in a different body and it can be revealing about their character and life path. This in and of itself can answer a lot of unasked questions.

Past lives can be an emotive and interesting concept and one that is often pooh poohed by many, even those who walk a spiritual path. That’s not to say that they are wrong and the believers are right, it just means we’re different. For me and others like me, I know that this present life is richer and more fulfilling for me knowing about my past lives. I believe I give a better treatment because of it; the knowledge and experience of those lives can come to the fore at any time if you let them. Try it and see if you get the chance, it could rock your world!

Have You Lived Before?

The thought of this not being the first time we’ve been here on Earth may to some of you come as a shock, or it may come as a warm welcome. But have you ever entertained the idea so intensely that it’s led you to investigate your own possibility of having a past life or even lives if you are an older soul.

How old is old?

When it comes to past lives we can have a one or two, if we are younger souls or hundreds if we are an older soul. So what do I mean by young and old souls? Well it doesn’t specifically have anything to do with your Earth age; it does depend on how old your soul is with regards to experience. Your soul being made up of energy that cannot be destroyed. Science proves that. A young soul is a soul that is very new to incarnating upon Earth and in fact incarnating within any realm. These souls may feel restless, rather depressed and lost within their life as they are not used to life within these realms. An older soul is a soul that seems to have knowingness about them. They look wise beyond their years. Old heads on young shoulders is how some express it. They may even recall life at other times, talk about people and places they have no possibility of knowing about.

Why rake up the past?

Some may find the idea of discovering you have lived before rather daunting and others may find it therapeutic. How do you feel about it? Uneasy? Excited? However you feel it does become rather thought provoking doesn’t it? There is a saying that ‘the past is in the past’ and to a certain degree I agree with that. I also agree that if you feel that you most certainly would not like to know if you have lived before then that is fine. But if you do, what should you do? What can you expect to find? I remember when I spontaneously had a past life recall of my own. It was spontaneous because I had no intention of finding out my past life. Well not the way that I did.
My method of past life therapy involved crystals which I used to influence my dream state. Doing this helped me to unearth my mysterious past life. The things that happened in this past life were rather traumatic and even more interestingly was the effects it had upon me after I realised I’d dreamt of a past life.

Ever since I was a child I was frightened of the dark, scared of death and seeing spirit. I was also hospitalized and the doctors told me that I could days without food, but not water as I suffer from dehydration. Even now, years later I always have to drink a lot.

Many of these patterns were reflected in the trauma I encountered in my past life. Since unearthing my Past life I have now overcome my fear of seeing spirits, and my fear of the dark. So personally, it really helped me to discover my past life. So much so that it inspired me to research other peoples past lives and the methods used to recall them.

Methods of Past Life Therapy

There are many methods out there that are available to us if we want to research and discover about our previous incarnations. The more I researched the more methods I found, and well as you will discover there are simply no limitations to how we can gather information these days.

Past Life Regression with a Therapist

The most famous of methods is the regression therapy with a qualified therapist. This is where the client arranges a consultation with a Regression Therapist that will gently and safely regress the client back to a time long before they were born to discover who they were before. Perhaps they were male in the previous life who lived in Africa working as a slave. Yet in this life they are from England and are in fact self employed. Why such they difference in lifestyles? Well it is thought that perhaps our past life experiences encourage the opposite to occur in this life. For example take the above example who now lives in England as a self employed accountant. It is possible that this “time around” he decided that he would not allow himself to be in a position that could remind him of his slavery days.

Spontaneous Dream Recall

This has to be one of my favourite methods of discovering past lives for two reasons, one it is spontaneous which for me makes it slightly more difficult to explain as just “something we imagined”, and two because it occurs when our body is in a completely natural state of relaxation. This method does have one slight draw back though, if when you wake up and remember your dream, you want to know more details, its quite difficult to find those out, whereas with a therapist that has hypnotised you, you can be asked these questions automatically as therapists tend to want to get all the information they can for your benefit.

Spontaneously

Spontaneous past life recall can involve a variety of methods such as psychic visions, psychic feelings, and childhood experiences. I’ve read accounts where people have been somewhere they have never been before and suddenly had a feeling that they’ve been there before and feel a different time zone, different personalities than those around them, and just somehow “knew” they used to live there, in a certain place, with certain people, in a specific year. I think this type of recall is magnificent as it shows that when we let our spirit speak to us and listen to it, we discover so much more than if we closed our selves off and focussed on materialism.

Childhood spontaneous past life recall is something that is becoming quite known about. There was once a documentary on television about a boy who knew where he lived before and described the house. In the documentary they took him back to this house to see what he could tell them.
Quite a lot of children are now saying to their parents “You’re not my Mummy, I was you’re Mummy before”, or “My name was Jody before”. Some parents worry about this but there really is no need to. I would embrace it, write it all down for them in a special book, put it away for when they are older and talk to them about it then.

My Research Findings so far

I have read at least 100 accounts of past life recall and out of … methods including visiting a past life regressionist, meditating, encountering past life dreams and having spontaneous recollections of past lives I was shocked at the results I found. I was expecting the rate of visits to past life regressionist to be high and the more independent methods to be less.

My research findings on reading these accounts showed me that 30% of people who had experienced their past life, had done so through a spontaneous dream recall, just like recalled mine! So I’m not alone. My thoughts when beginning to research past lives thought I’d find a few of us that had recalled our past lives through dreams. But never did I think that it would be 30% of us.

Relating to all methods I researched which included; hypnosis, meditation, dreaming, psychic feelings/visions, and child experiences, 38% recalled their past lives spontaneously. These people never planned to find out their past lives. Interestingly those who did set out to find their past lives through a hypnosis session with a therapist only accounted for 4%. Why was this I wondered? My personal opinion on this is that we are becoming much more independent in finding out our spiritual heritage so to speak. We are becoming adventurous in our soul searching. And from my findings, this seems to be working.

So any trends in my research I hear you asking. What amazing past lives have these people recalled? Well it was in fact fascinating to find out that in the descriptions of these past lives, there were 4 repetitive trends. We are remembering lives in Egypt, also in the 1800s, some of us had been connected to temples around the world. But my most interesting find was how many of us have had a past life where we were involved in War, Battles and being soldiers. Which is very interesting as we are currently involved in the War against Terrorism, and there are a lot of people around who claim to have been Cleopatra, Nefertiti, or involved in the work of the pyramids. It seems that we have all decided to come back in this life and meet each other, along with other souls who are either older than us or in fact younger to which we assist them in their pathway of discovery. So there really is an interesting eclectic mix of people who have lived before surrounding us.

So have you lived before? You could well possibly have done, and possibly you could have worked in the 1800s, or even been a soldier in a war many years ago. You could even have been living in Egypt. Chances are you have lived before, we may even know each other from that life? Do you fancy finding out?

One thing I do know, dreaming is certainly the way to do it.

According to our spiritual masters death holds the greatest possible surprise to man: there is no death. This, however, is exceedingly difficult to accept by the modern, intellectual individual, who wants scientific proof for the claim. Consequently many people living in the western world today believe that we only live one life. They are convinced that our consciousness will simply cease to exist when we have drawn our last breath. Very few people believe that we will ever be able to come up with conclusive proof that our consciousness survives the death of the physical body. They think that this is just superstition or wishful thinking.

However, there is a growing body of evidence in the empirical world that does not fit with the one-life theory. Among this evidence the near-death experience is probably the best known, and this intriguing phenomenon has been the subject of scientific scrutiny for various decades now. To begin with those who had experienced being alive outside their body were met with disbelief and sometimes ridicule, but now they are finally being taken seriously. A large scale research project named “The Human Consciousness Project” has been established by the Nour Foundation, which is a public charitable and nongovernmental organization in special consultative status to the United Nations. The project involves leading scientists in the field of consciousness studies from the USA, Europe and Canada, and its aim is to come up with conclusive evidence that our consciousness can exist independently of the physical body.

This is a controversial idea, as the general view has been that our consciousness is just a by-product of electrochemical activity within the brain. This has been the accepted view, notwithstanding the lack of any scientific evidence or even a plausible biological explanation as to how the brain would lead to the development of mind and consciousness. Nevertheless, the generally accepted view is that consciousness is a by-product of brain activity. However, this view is now being questioned because it seems that consciousness can exist independently of the brain. Consciousness could be a self-sustained unit and this assumption is based on the observation that many near-death experiencers have been able to observe objects and goings-on in an out-of-body state. In spite of the fact that their body was declared clinically dead on the operating table, they were able to observe what was going on in the space surrounding the body. After resuscitation the near-death experiencer would for instance point out that she had observed a particular object on top of a cupboard in an adjacent room. Or she would know what her family members waiting in the corridor were wearing. When the medical staff went to check, they did indeed find the exact object in the described location or the precise garment worn by the family member. The patient had been able to see this while she was flat on her back with no vital signs.

Because we are now able to resuscitate people with cardiac arrest, there is a growing number of people who report lucid, well-structured thought processes while their body is clinically dead. It has been established that 10-12 % of all people who have been resuscitated following a cardiac arrest report that they were alive in a body of a much lighter and finer type of matter than their physical body. They found that the experience of being dead was exceedingly pleasant – so pleasant that they were very reluctant to return to the body.
It is the observation of particular objects placed above the range of normal vision that is key in the “Human Consciousness Project”. The idea is to place various objects in and around resuscitation rooms in places that are only visible from just below the ceiling. If the person with cardiac arrest is able to observe and describe the object, then this indicates that consciousness survives the death of the body and that it can exist independently of the physical organism. It will eventually mean that we will be taking the first steps towards scientifically proving that death is an illusion.
This is, of course, what our spiritual masters have been telling us all along, but as many modern people are more comfortable with the scientific approach, it seems that we are getting closer to the point where spirituality and science can finally link up and join hands.

The near-death experience is not the only type of evidence for the survival of consciousness. Other important fields of research are: children that remember past lives, after death communication, regression therapy, death bed visions and the afterlife experiments. The evidence for life after death is growing every day whereas there is no evidence for the one-life theory. Today we can say that those who claim that death is the end of life are the true believers. They believe in something that cannot be proved and that has no support in the empirical world. Nobody has ever been able to prove that our consciousness is extinguished at death. On the other hand the evidence pointing out that death is not the end grows on a daily basis.

The key to an understanding of how consciousness can survive the death of the body is to realize that it is not only physical matter that is real. Matter also exists in the shape of invisible rays and waves. These have been defined in the electromagnetic spectrum, and it is this type of matter that we make use of when we talk on our mobile phones, receive television, radio and wireless internet. As we make use of this type of matter every day it is pointless to claim that invisible matter does not exist. It is also in this type of ray-formed matter that our consciousness exists in the shape of an energy field that sits in and around the physical body. The field holds our “I” and all the characteristics of who we are, and we are just as alive and kicking without a physical body as we are with it. What we see as death is just a passing from one state of matter to another. When we die, our energy field pulls out of the body, but as our consciousness and self consists of energy, it goes on existing in exactly the same way as the electricity that lit up our lamp goes on existing after we have turned the lamp off. Energy cannot cease to exist. We are eternal beings because everything that makes us into the person we are sits in our consciousness in the shape of our energy field or aura. It is this entity that survives the death of the body. The physical body can be defined as an instrument for the consciousness forces of the “I”. Death is an illusion.

For most of us we will face a time (if not more than once) where we ask what is the point of life, specifically, why do we as individuals exist? No child is born knowing what they want to ‘do’ – for they are simply happy to ‘be’. But then the child is taught that ‘being’ is not enough, aspirations are imposed and ‘doing’ overtakes all. Well, I want to share with you a truth that I have discovered – that in cultivating our ‘selves’, going back to our roots, through our past incarnations to the very seed of our creation, we can weed out the doubts we face now and blossom into the most spectacular form of our true souls…

One of the most popular types of workshop is related to ’Past Lives’ or ‘Soul Retrieval’. Perhaps this is partly due to a resurgence in all things esoteric, (it being generally more acceptable for people to speak of these things), but I believe it is also down to the fact that as ‘beings’ we have a fundamental desire to re-connect to our place of origin the minute we become aware of our detachment from it. It is a scientific fact that only two fears are inherent in us – the fear of falling and a fear of load noises – just look at any baby’s reaction to a bang or a feeling of instability. The medical profession relate this to our primal urges of survival, the fact that as babies in the womb we are protected from load, sudden noises, encased in a warm dark place in which we are suspended – the safest environment for our fragile bodies.

Is it any wonder that our ancestral beliefs mirror this from a spiritual perspective rather than a physical one? When shamans journey back through their timeline, crossing the different realms they universally speak of ‘home’ as a place in which they exist that is warm, quite and more often dark not ‘bright blinding light’. Within the darkness there is always light, but it is the ‘womb’ of creation that they all speak of and the comforting blanket of the dark serves also to highlight the ‘divine sparks’ of creation. And it is this very act or travelling through our incarnations that now seems to help so many to make sense of their questions today. Now I am not talking about discovering you were someone famous, powerful or rich, though many people do recount appearing to look very different, and live out lives very alien to them now, but at the core of getting back to your roots, you will always know you are ‘you’, your essence remains constant and the reason for retracing your steps is to answer questions you have now, not to raise new ones.

The questions can be as simple as ‘Why do I need to go to Canada?’ as one man asked me once. This man was not someone you would ask for directions in a deserted street; he was powerfully built and had a stunning red Mohawk. When he was walking towards me I saw him transform into a most magnificent Mohican warrior. He stood quietly by my stall for a while, just looking on and I said to him, ’You’re a Mohican. You need to get in touch with your lands, don’t you?’ Well, he was aghast and told me that ever since he was a little boy he was fascinated by Native Americans, he’d been drawn to France and was desperate to visit Canada, to go ‘home’ but he couldn’t explain it to anyone because there was no reason why he should feel that way. He said people always thought of him as a ‘punk’ because of his hair, but he felt most comfortable having it like this, nothing to do with punks at all. For the first time he felt his inner knowing had been validated and he wasn’t going crazy. It was the ‘green light’ he had been waiting for to really live his life and do the things he wanted.
Tracking back can help us to end negative patterns, to let go of fears, to generally peel away all the layers of baggage that we have encasing us in this life. It is also accepted as medical fact that what we experience as children determines how we emotionally react to similar events throughout or lives as adults. For example as children we are not born with a fear of hot water, it is only when we touch it and it burns or are told not to touch and associate feeling bad that we ‘learn’ it is bad. Same principle applies to the other extreme, phobias – a fear of spiders has probably come from witnessing someone close to us show their fear and it becomes a learned behaviour or a learned associated emotion. Some scientists would even go so far as to say that we can inherit fears genetically. This proves the idea that cells can store memory (another now more widely held belief)… So is it not possible that this stored memory can come from much, much further back?

That now as our ‘new’ brains (based again on scientific beliefs that our brains have evolved from a more primitive mammalian brain to ‘new’ brain the neo cortex), are capable of so much more than 150,000 years ago we can actually start making use of all the incredible information stored inside us and process it a way that helps and not hinders. Understanding where this information comes from (and it is what a good practitioner can assist you to do) helps to makes sense of our very being. And the triggers to understanding these things can come from dreams, fears an inner knowing or even certain places in the world; sacred sites are particularly prevalent in drawing people to them to work through issues from the past.
When I was growing up, between 9 and 10 years of age, I developed a fear of ‘multiple’ rape. Now at this age I had no life experience of sex at all or exposure to it to explain why I was even having these thoughts and fears. Then a couple of years on I was raped by a man, but my fears and the dreams, dreams didn’t subside. I hadn’t had a premonition as a child, this was something else. It wasn’t till many years later when I was in Sedona, USA, that it made sense. My then husband and I went ‘walkabouts’ in the desert. Coming up to a ravine we passed 3 men standing by a car. As I walked passed them and entered the ravine I heard a voice say ‘Get out, before it happens again.’ I told my husband and he turned and noticed the men were following us. We made for a very narrow part of the ravine, got on our bellies and began to crawl up and out. And as I did so I saw before me a village and in the vision this native village was being over-run by white men charging in and I knew then that my fear from childhood was based on this event from a long-forgotten past. My husband and I crawled out, the three men gave up the chase, I never had the terrible vision again and that fear was gone.

Once we are freed from the negative emotions attached to our past experiences by understanding the ‘whys’ and ‘wherefores ‘ then we have the space to breathe more expansively and focus on our hearts desire, as well as having a stronger connection to our source. In other words when we are happy in ourselves, confident that we matter and are loved we are free to radiate that outwardly and everything makes more sense. When we have tended the soil of our souls we simply grow better. I wish you all a bountiful harvest.

Would it help to know where you loved ones go to after this life?

Interest of the afterlife is growing strongly by the minute because now when we lose someone we love, we’re not afraid of admitting that we want to know that they are still with us. Rightly so I think. We cared about them when they were here on the Earth Plane so why shouldn’t we care when they pass over?

The main questions I hear from people I know are;

Are my loved ones ok?

Where are my loved ones?

Are my loved ones still around me?

What happened when they died?

Are they still in any pain?

Were they alone or did someone meet them?

These are all questions we all ask at some point in our lives; even I ask them. They are also questions that we ask to gain comfort from a most painful, confusing and terrifying time. It is through my work with the spiritual realms that I’ve gained insight into these questions. Hopefully it will help many of you to heal from your experiences and help comfort you to know that you can reach your loved ones easily with a few simple guidelines I’ll share with you.

Firstly let’s answer some of the questions most frequently asked about the afterlife.

My loved one recently died, are they ok?

Yes! They are absolutely fine; they are no longer in any pain or suffering. When the passing took place your loved one didn’t feel a thing. They are happy now they don’t have a physical body to weigh them down or cause pain for them. Most importantly, they are being taken care of.

Are my loved ones still around me?

Your loved ones are right with you now!!! In truth they have not gone anywhere. The only change is that they have left their earthly body behind and have truly transformed into their true self. If you still your mind and ask your loved one to give you a sign that they are still around you, you will definitely get a sign. Just be open to what that sign is though. They like to surprise us.

Where are my loved ones?

Your loved ones are in a lovely place called the ‘Spirit World’. It is on the same level as the earth plane, it’s just what you could describe as the Invisible Version. You don’t need to worry about your loved ones – they are being looked after by family, friends and the angels.

Are they still in any pain?

No! Your loved one is free from pain and was so the second their spirit left their body. The spirit world is not about pain or suffering. It’s about happiness and learning, being free and able to enjoy just being you.

What happened when they died?

You must remember and understand that there was no pain at all when your loved one passed over into the spirit world. They were not alone. It would have felt something like drifting off into a deep sleep and then waking up somewhere else, only they would have been aware of everything that was happening. A loved one, a friend, an angel or spiritual guide would have been waiting for them and would have helped them ease into their new life

It is normal for us to worry about our family and friends but we must try not to worry when they pass over because they are okay. We all have understandable worries about the passing of a loved one, but you don’t need to worry. We are constantly surrounded by the angels and we can amplify their presence by simply thinking of them, asking them to draw near to us, and even imagining they are right by our side, as in truth they are. God would never let any of his children pass from one world to the next without family, friends, spirit guides and their celestial guardian assisting them, walking every step of the way with them.

WAYS IN WHICH TO FACILITATE CONTACT WITH YOUR LOVED ONES

The first thing that you can do is visit a medium that is well recommended to see if they can bring you a message from your loved one. You must remember it is not the medium that brings your loved ones, it is you. Don’t be disheartened if the person that does come to say hello to you isn’t the person you wanted as they may very well have an important message for you, and your preferred loved one may be resting, or adjusting to the spirit world.

Make an altar in remembrance of all your loved ones. This can be done with a small table or bookshelf where you place a photo of your loved ones, a vase of their favourite flowers, perhaps they had a favourite book or personal item that you could place here. Also a pure white candle, pillar or tea light to aid purity and communication would also be favourable. Remember it doesn’t have to be all glitz and glamour like in the movies, it’s important it is a true representation of the love that was shared between the both of you.

Write them a letter, just like you would to a friend you haven’t seen for a while. Ask them how they are finding it in their new home (the spirit world), also ask them about anything that is worrying you and always tell them how much you love them. Place this under your pillow before you go to sleep and your loved one may enter your dreams with the answers to your questions. You may need to do this for a few nights as it may take them a while to understand how to do dream visitations.

My favourite one, ask them to give you a sign to show they are with you. Don’t be specific on what you want the sign to be. Let them do it in their own way and surprise you. They will never do anything to frighten you. They loved you when they were on Earth. Nothing will change that. Not even passing to the spirit world.

Would you like to be regressed to a previous life? Steve Burgess tells us all about it....

I’ve been practising as a Hypnotherapist for over 15 years and I can honestly say that of all the therapy techniques I use with my clients, Past Life Therapy is the most powerful of them all. In Past Life Therapy we are working on the root causes of issues which often have been with people all of their lives. These root causes are usually traumatic events which have taken place in past lives which have left a imprint in the client’s sub-conscious mind which is activated in this present lifetime.

So many issues that people experience have their roots in past life events, including phobias, anxieties and panic attacks, depression, lack of confidence, physically illnesses, sexual issues, weight problems to name just a few. By exploring and releasing the negative emotions and energy which has been locked inside a person the problem from which they have been suffering usually dissolves away, leaving them feeling free and healed.

Quite often it is the death in the past life which is causing the problem in this life, especially if the death was traumatic. Although the thought of experiencing past life death can cause apprehension for a client, the actual re-living of it is generally a wonderful catharsis which clears their issues fully and permanently.

The process involves using hypnosis, a state of pleasant relaxation which allows us to access the deep, inner mind which is where past life memories are stored. Throughout the regression the client is fully aware of everything they are experiencing, sometimes seeing and feeling in depth the past life events as if they were actually happening in the present.

A few examples from my casebook:

Gary came to me suffering from panic attacks and anxiety, which developed into a phobia of leaving his house. In our session he regressed back into a past life in which he and his family were taken out of their homes by Nazi soldiers and shot. His panic attacks and phobia vanished completely at the end of our session.

Lisa had a considerable problem with overeating. She was excessively overweight and completely out of control with her eating habits. She regressed back into a former life where she starved to death. Her eating habits became normal again and she started to lose weight.

Mary was a married woman who struggled to enjoy sex with her husband. As a result, their marriage was floundering. We discovered that in a past life in Victorian times she had been a prostitute working in Liverpool’s dockland. Her dislike of sex faded and she is now happily married.

James was a young student who had a severe needle phobia. One of his past lives involved being beheaded. He was easily able to undergo dental surgery a few days later.

Tony was overweight as a result of back problems which, despite surgery, had never been cleared up. We found that four of her past lives were causing the problem and the pain, one of which was as a German soldier who was shot by a Russian sniper. Guess where the bullet went? Straight through her lower back where she was experiencing the problem in this life. Again, clearing all of the past lives meant that the physical issue healed and she was able to resume a normal, pain-free life. She was able to start exercising and soon lost her excess weight.

Alan was obsessively insecure about his girlfriend. He was insanely jealous and struggled to let her out of his sight. We found that in several previous lives she had betrayed him, leading to his death on two occasions. He released the emotions trapped in those past lives and was able to enjoy a normal, loving relationship with her.

This is just a minute sample of the amazing healing effects of Past Life Therapy. It has to be said though that not all Hypnotherapists work in past lives, so if you’re considering undergoing a course of treatment it’s worth ringing round a few Therapists to assess how they operate. I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It really can be a life-changing experience.

...It is not the physical shell of a person’s life on Earth that we miss when we are bereaved, but really, the none-physical legacy that they leave behind

A time will come in each of our individual lives when we experience the passing away of someone close to us. Death is something which, although sometimes extremely hard to face up to, is inevitable for us all. Looking out over the graveyard, smiling pansies dotted across the land and with the gentle lullaby of wooden wind chimes hanging from the pink and white blossoming trees, a sense of unease washes over me.

The image of a thousand pieces of stone, jutting up from the land, is a blunt representative of a concept so mysterious to us is hard to comprehend when surrounded by such jovial life and vivacity, reflective of how hard it is to comprehend that they are gone from my life. It is so hard for us all to bear, almost for us to actually believe, that one day we can have someone close enough to touch and to interact with one day, and the next for them to be absent.

It is the general consensus that part of what makes living people alive is to have a functioning physical body. To function biologically; to take in oxygen, for a heart to beat within us and for blood to circulate through our veins, for it is of course at the sharp, precise point when our hearts discontinue their monotonous yet glorious beat, that we are considered to have passed away. It is the remains of our bodies which are signified by the physical presence of a grave- that morbid, disheartening representation of death. But this is not all we are.

Aside from the physical aspect of being in the world, we are also thinking, feeling creatures, alive within. Some people are extroverts; happy to be the centre of attention, loudly spoken and hilariously funny with a sharp wit, but with a more reserved side which is only exposed to those they know. Other people are quiet, brooding, thoughtful, with a dry sense of humour and high hopes for the future. We are all different inside, and the none-physical aspect of out personalities are multi-faceted. It is almost our job, as human beings, to deliver the metaphysical, underlying part of our existence out into the open world through means of physical expression. For some, it is this untouchable, invisible part of a human which makes us really, truly alive.

Think about it: it is not the physical shell of a person’s life on Earth that we miss when we are bereaved, but really, the none-physical legacy that they leave behind. It is the memories of a person’s personality, of their likes and dislikes, their hopes and dreams and the quirky ideas they would have that ultimately constitutes what their life was when they die, and indeed, what constitutes all of our lives when we are living. The name given to this part of a human’s existence is the ‘soul’. The soul is a person’s essence, their core, their inner being. It is made up of all of their internal thoughts, feelings and traits which makes a person an individual and encourages us to love them. The idea of a soul existing within us all makes the concept and the reality of death more of a curious issue.

When someone passes away, it seems like such a waste that this rich tapestry of interlinking thoughts and memories just fade away with the remains of the person’s body- but this may not be the case. The soul is said to be transcendent, to live out the material, and to be eternal in it’s existence. This means that the actual essence of a person is able to live on forever- perhaps in another life form.

Reincarnation is the name given to the process which allows the soul to enter into another body, and live again. This means that everything a person has been in life, expressed through their soul, can be directly transferred straight into another physical entity, able to express itself once more.

Reincarnation a very real possibility- it is an element of many world faiths, and is a large portion of spiritual contemplation for many people.
The idea of another chance at life is a very humbling, comforting thought for all of us. It takes away the sting and fear of death, for ourselves and for those we know who have passed away, resonating within us the opportunity to really feel what life is like within our current situations, what our souls are teaching us. Perhaps when we die, it is the end for our biological shells, our transport, if you like, but a new beginning for our essence.

Perhaps we are all conceived into empty shells, injected with life by some greater influence at the point of birth, free once more to live and to learn within another physical embodiment.
Have you ever met someone who you feel you have known before? Perhaps this signifies a previous meeting of souls. Perhaps our souls have their own ways of finding their way back to those they have loved and let go before. It could be, that the people close to you who have passed away, are emanating their love for you that was felt deep within the essence of themselves, entwined within their souls, from other, sometimes unseen physical entities all around us. Those that are gone are not always lost.

With this in mind, looking out over the graveyard is an entirely different experience. What I see is a scrapbook of memories and dedications, names carved in a tree, a map of biological goodbyes, strewn across the Earth to signify a pleasant time for our souls in this life when loved by others, only to meet again sometime in the future, to love once more.
