When Claire Aviemore took on hand-reared foal Miracle, she couldn't have predicted how apt the name would become.

Healing hands for “Miracle” as animal healer helps severe horse injury

When Claire Aviemore took on hand-reared foal Miracle, she couldn’t have predicted how apt the name would become. In May 2011, Miracle was badly kicked by another horse. The injury was so severe, the physiotherapist said Miracle was unlikely to be ridden again. She didn’t respond to vet treatment and nobody knew what to do.

Then Claire turned to Amy Lawrenson of Silver Daisies Healing, Merseyside Reiki therapist and animal healer. After just two treatments, Miracle (who is stabled at Delf Livery Yard in Winick) is no longer lame.Amy, 30, lives in St Helens and was born and raised in Merseyside. An animal lover, she has always had pets of her own and now lives with two cats (Tess and Nellie) and a dog (Kibble). Tragically, her own horse Daisy had to be put to sleep earlier this year after battling illness for a long time.

It was this event which prompted Amy to launch her business, Silver Daisies Healing. She offers fully-qualified Reiki healing to any animals suffering illness, injury, stress or behavioural problems. The name is a nod to her much-loved pony. “I was devastated when Daisy had to be put to sleep,” Amy said, “and set up my business in her memory, offering healing and Reiki to animals. It’s a complementary therapy which has been shown to be very effective on animals. If it can help alongside vet treatment, or support existing treatment, then I have done my job.”

To date, Amy has helped a number of small and large animals, including cats, dogs and horses.

Miracle is just one of her success stories. After her injury, the 15.2hh bay mare wasn’t responding to vet or physio treatment. Owner Claire called Amy. “Miracle is usually such a sweet mare,” she explained, “but she was obviously in a lot of pain and would only tolerate me touching her. When Amy arrived to assess her I was amazed. Miracle took to her immediately and let Amy touch and treat her. I could see how much Miracle relaxed during the treatment – her bottom lip wobbled, her eyes were half-closed. In just two days after the treatment the change was incredible. She was back to her calm self. A week later – with no other treatment in the meantime – Miracle was standing straight on all four legs. It was a massive improvement.”

Amy explained the treatment: “The Reiki I gave Miracle that first day relaxed her, enabling her body to start healing where before it had been too tense. I also gave Claire some herbal remedies to put in Miracle’s water. These helped calm her even more so her body could reset itself.”

Amy underwent official Reiki therapy training (to treat humans and animals) at Liverpool’s Pauline Mahoney School of Hypnotherapy in 2004 and her formal animal healing training in 2009.

Amy offers treatments for both animals and people in Merseyside and Cheshire and has limited appointments in West Yorkshire.

Missing

The pain I’m feeling is unbearable, my boy ‘Fingles’ has gone and I have no idea where he is. I’m helpless, wondering if he’s been stolen, if he’s trapped somewhere, if he’s hurt or even worse, he’s died. It’s the not knowing that’s so painful. I sit and wait for him but nothing, dinner time passes, then bed time but I can’t sleep, all I can do is sit and wonder where on Earth my baby is. I sit at my desk trying to concentrate on the tasks ahead of me. I see something in the corner of my eye, my heart leaps into my throat – he’s home! No, its a little bird come to eat the biscuits that I left out for Fingles last night.

We’ve been down this path before – he’d gone for a few hours, returning after dark as if nothing has happened and not a mark on him. He looked so bright eyed and bushy tailed, he’d obviously seen some exciting new sights and smelt some new smells. He probably had no idea of the time that passed and the aching I felt in my heart.

This time’s different, this time he’s been out for 2 days and one night. Two sleepless nights and one agonising, zombie like day. I put up a sign on the village notice board, I ask the postman and the neighbours to keep a look out for my boy. They don’t seem to see the pain that’s going on behind my eyes. They don’t know about the little names we make up for him, they don’t know how he shakes his tail when his biscuits come out of the packet, they don’t know that his favourite toys are a piece of string and a catnip mouse… they think he’s just a cat, but he’s not! He’s our baby and he’s gone.

I am an Animal Communicator and the one thing people always tell me is, “it’s the not knowing that hurts the most”. I thought I understood them but I didn’t, not until now. I could cope if I was told he’d been found dead. That sounds awful but I know from first-hand experience. His brother was killed by a car just over a year ago. The pain was awful then, but this is a whole new pain of uncertainty and worry.

So, if I am a practicing Animal Communicator, why can’t I communicate with him? Why can’t I track him down like I have other people’s pets that have gone missing? It is because doubt slips in! Doubt never plays a part with other people’s pets. It’s not because I don’t care, I do. That is why I’ve chosen a career as an Animal Communicator. I believe it is because all of the information I am receiving from their pet is 100% accurate, I have no cause to doubt that. I give my space to their pets and I interpret their pet’s feelings to them, to me it’s completely natural.

I believe in the Law of Attraction and I believe this is how things are meant to be played out. However hard that may be to accept. I believe that if you are to council someone through such a bad time, you need to be able to relate to them and feel what they’re feeling. I have had to have my pets euthanized in the past. I have had a cat killed by a car. Now I am experiencing the unique and unimaginable pain of a beloved pet going missing. How can I sit there and tell someone to calm down and try to be positive, if I’ve not experienced the pain myself.

The one thing that does make this slightly bearable, is knowing that there is life after death. If my beloved Fingles is not to return and has in fact passed over, it does not mean it’s the end. Once the crying and the fears are out in the open and have subsided, I am able to centre myself once again and find an inner peace that will bring him home, if he is meant to return.

Not many Animal Communicators work with missing pets and this is understandable. I was not going to, but kept getting drawn back to the subject. When Fingles went the first couple of times, I realised it was happening so I could be the best I could for other people in this situation. But I hadn’t truly felt the pain, the fears hadn’t had time to settle before he came home. Whereas this time, they have. Now I am in a place where I truly realise and believe that, just as I create my life he needs to create his. He is wherever he needs to be right now. It may not seem fair or right to me but it is right for him.

There is no use in going out to look for your pet when you are in a state of despair. Fear is driving you and therefore you will never get the results you truly want. When you are calm and positive you are coming from a state of Love and that’s where you should be driven from. I am not saying you should not go through the motions and do what feels instinctively right to you. I am just saying that if your mind is clear, you are open for communication. If your mind is full of worry, doubt and terrifying thoughts, you are blocked of any communication that may be trying to get through.

I tried everything to try and achieve a calm positive state but nothing worked. Then on the second night of him being gone I used a technique I’d been taught at a Holistic Fair to balance myself with things I wanted in my life, things I wanted to manifest. Well I’ve never wanted to manifest anything in my life as much as I wanted to manifest my beloved Fingles returning home. So before bed I worked with the technique a couple of times and balanced myself with the knowing that Fingles would return THAT night. I went to bed feeling calm and dropped off to sleep easily.

I was woken at 12:20pm by my partner Ben saying Fingles had returned. How I thought, how could he get in? Ben had left our back door open for him and there he was. Sat at the end of the bed like a present left from Father Christmas, looking up at me with those loving eyes. He didn’t seem to know what all the fuss was about and was dry and unmarked as the last two times. I thanked the Universe for bringing Fingles home safely but I knew that he came home because I balanced myself with the thought of this happening.

I truly feel that I now have all the skills and tools to help others going through this terrible pain. As an Animal Communicator I am able to connect with their pet (alive or in Spirit) and find out key information about where they have been or where they are. It’s not 100% accurate as I am interpreting the information I receive but it can be key in locating a missing animal. Animal Communication is a great tool but now I have another tool to help the pet’s owner. Helping them to become balanced and calm will help them and their pet.

by Michael Berman

This is a meditation by Michael Berman, taking us deep into Mother Nature to meet our Animal Guides.

SCRIPT FOR THE GUIDE: (To be read in a gentle trance-inducing voice). Make yourself comfortable and close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths to help you relax. Feel the tension disappear stage by stage from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. Let your surroundings fade away as you gradually sink backwards through time and actuality and pass through the gateway of this reality into the dreamtime. (When the participants are fully relaxed, begin the next stage).

You find yourself standing in the open air, in the countryside, a place you know well, a place that you have visited many times before, either in your everyday life or in your dreams. You look for an opening into the earth – maybe a rabbit warren, maybe a cave, maybe a hole in the ground – and you find one. You find one that feels just right for you. And from there you start to lower yourself down, lower and lower you go, out of the darkness and into the light, until eventually you feel the solid ground under your feet once again. At first the light blinds you after the darkness, but gradually you get accustomed to it. Look around you. What do you see, what do you hear, what do you taste on your lips, what do you smell, and what you feel? Take a minute of clock time, equal to all the time you need, to explore this special place, this place of power for you …

And now, coming towards you, you see a figure, not a human one. What kind of creature is it? This creature is your friend and is coming both to support you and give you guidance. Take a minute of clock time, equal to all the time you need, to get to know each other, and find out what special qualities your Helper has to offer…..

And now perhaps you have a question you’d like to ask, either a personal; question, or a question of global concern. Take a minute of clock time, equal to all the time you need, to ask, and listen to the advice your new friend has to give. Before you leave, make sure you thank your Helper, promise to honour the advice you’ve been given, and also that you’ll return again. And now that the purpose of your journey has been accomplished, now that you have been given the support and encouragement that only your Helper can give you, the time has come to make your way back home. Higher and higher up to your everyday world you climb, higher and higher until you reach the surface once again, and back to the place you started from.

Take a deep breath, let it all out slowly, open your eyes, and smile at the first person you see. Stretch your arms, stretch your legs, stamp your feet on the ground, and make sure you’re really back, back in …, back where you started from. Welcome home!

Now take a few minutes in silence to make some notes on the experiences you had on your journeys, which you can then share with the rest of the group.

Now take a few minutes in silence to make some notes on the experiences you had on your journeys, which you can then make a note of in your dream journal.

And now you might like to turn to the person sitting next to you and share some of the experiences you had on your journeys

Meet Ingrid Rylance - an animal communicator

INGRID RYLANCE shares with us her experiences of being an animal communicator. Her story is a deeply moving one.

Maddy rang me looking for help with her horse called Lady but I was guided to first tune in to another horse called Maybel. Maybel was a chestnut colour with a bored white blaze. She was a link to all of the horses and Maddy too- you will begin to understand as the information coming through in the reading unfolds. This was on the telephone with out me seeing any photographs.

Lady

Prince

I asked Maddy if there were any bereavement issues with her, because this is what I felt around her. She told me she had broken up with her boyfriend. I also asked if there was bereavement or a death, connected to the horse called Lady. Maddy said yes, there was a horse that they all loved very much, and he was called Prince.

I first looked through the pictures Maddy kindly brought for me to see. I saw the picture of the horse which I first saw in my minds eye while talking to Maddy on the phone. This was proven to be that of Maybel, I felt that there was not much to say about this one. Next Maddy showed the picture of Prince; this time the picture was cutting deep into my heart with every kind of emotion possible. There was a lump in my throat, and I was then awash with salty tears that filled my eyes, like a bolt from nowhere. Sometimes I feel so much that this can happen: I’m only human. But then this passed over me, and I pressed on with the reading.

I was given a picture of a chocolate bar! This tasted to me very yummy very sweet, but not sickly. I asked Maddy: ‘Was Prince a very sweet natured animal? I also see you sat in the field like having a cup of tea and a chat.’ Maddy was so in love with this lovely horse. She missed him so much and I could see tears filling her eyelids as I turned away to give her a break from the thread of emotion which was consuming her with the reading. Then as I turned back to tell her more about Prince, the real love filled me up and felt so good. We both began to smile and we both started to laugh about what Prince was like. I really felt his presence, and knew Prince was standing with us. I asked Maddy, ‘Could you feel Prince here?’ She said that she could, and I knew at that time she actually saw him standing with us. That made me glow all over. There was no wonder that they all grieved for this magnificent horse- no words can fill these deep entrenched feelings that had lingered in their lives, not only with Maddy, but Lady had lost a real soul mate too. This part of the reading had helped Maddy to release and let go a lot of emotional baggage. Not to say that we forget, we never lose that endless golden thread of love, which ties all things we love so dear

Before Maddy went to fetch Lady from the field, we went through some exercises that I have used with many people. This can help place you in a better mindset to see a troubled animal or horse. Before working with Maddy and the photo of Prince, Maddy had had a lot stored in her emotional side and to let go was one of the stages- the work we did with Prince from the photograph. This would help Lady to cope as well, even though we had not yet seen her.

Now Maddy was in a better way of seeing Lady so I asked her to go and fetch Lady into the schoolyard, the January wind cutting, and yet a lovely blue sky filled the landscape with the sun shining. We set to work.

Maybel with Lady in backgroun

Lady came into the schoolyard with Maddy. I asked that Maddy to undo the lead rope, and with that Lady went charging up and down the schoolyard like a freight train. It was very scary stuff, I was just not expecting it. Maddy turned to look at me, and said ‘See, this is what she does.’ Lady did some more charging up and down the schoolyard, then went into a corner of and stood looking at the other horses in adjacent fields. I took off the emotional ties that had trapped both Maddy and Lady. This felt really bad to me, and hit my heart and stomach like a block or a concrete wall.

I walked around the schoolyard with poles just lying on the ground, I stepped over them one by one, Lady looked on over her shoulder at me. I went around one more time, asking her to join me if she wanted to. Lady still looked on some of the time. I carried on walking the poles, just communicating that I wanted to trust to her. Next, I asked her to join me as I stood looking at the landscape. As I turned around I felt jelly wobble over my aura, and there she was, standing over my shoulder. I really thanked her for that. Next, I asked Maddy to repeat just what I had done, and in a very short time of about twenty minutes we had Lady joining us as we walked the poles. No pressure, no lead rope or vies, just asking, through animal communication, which was helping and connecting us all. I thanked Lady for her part. She was so much calmer now: head down, licking her lips and chewing, much softer too. Just as if we all had a better understanding of what each of us wanted form the other, a clear and mutual rapport. This can be very beneficial for animals and people alike, that’s why animal communication can help so much.

Amidst the stars and the magic of the night sky.... and our innermost hearts, lies the returning spirit of the unicorn.

Amidst the stars and the magic of the night sky, amidst the waves of the sea and our innermost hearts, lies the returning spirit of the unicorn.

Why would a BBC Publicist quit her job to talk to unicorns, and why would her Arts Worker friend, do exactly the same? Because they answered the call when it came. It wasn’t by telephone, e-mail or letter, but by simply tuning in to their intuition…

“No-one in our immediate circle could quite get their heads around why we would turn our backs on what were perceived to be quite glamorous well paid careers to work with unicorns” said Lyn.

“The unicorns just arrived in our lives, and asked us to work with them. I’d always had an interest in unicorns and the more mystical side of life, but as I become more and more enmeshed in the worlds of media and music industry, my frequencies grow lower, and the unicorns retreated. So it was with great joy when they returned some twenty years later to give me another chance, for as if out of nowhere the idea for Lunicorn landed in our laps, beginning with the unicorn believe box ”

The business of Lunicorn started in 2005 with a range of unicorn themed meditation kits, created to inspire confidence, boost self-esteem or help bring about change. Now Lunicorn has evolved into a brand which is synonymous with positive thought and self-belief, of which, of course, unicorns are a symbol.

By accident it seemed, Lunicorn was invited to host a variety of ‘Unicorns, Fairies & Wizards’ Childrens workshops, initially at The Burnside Gallery on the Isle of Arran, and then throughout Scotland, and now, by what again would appear to be a number of co-incidences(?), Lunicorn finds itself producing Magical Unicorn Meditations for Children cds. Inspired by the feedback from parents and kids on their workshops, Lunicorn realised that maybe children needed a time and space to listen, imagine and believe that what ever they wanted to happen, actually could, always for the highest good. Many people ask us now, “but how can I contact unicorns?”. The answer is easy, just find a quiet space, and ask. You might be surprised with the results…

Historically, the horn of a unicorn is said to purify the darkest poison, which is probably why so many were hunted across the centuries. Since January 2002, the Tapestry Studio at West Dean College has been working on a recreation of The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries. Historians studying the reign of James IV believe that a similar series of ‘Unicorn’ tapestries were part of the royal collection. This project is due for completion in 2014.

The unicorn is actually a symbol of Scotland and can be seen in most market squares in cities and towns all over Scotland. Take a look at your passport too! In the late 1300s, King Robert III placed two unicorns on the royal seal, as he loved the qualities of the unicorn i.e. harmony, strength, gentleness. It was only when Queen Elizabeth I died, and James I of Scotland and VI of England became King, that in a diplomatic gesture to unite Scotland and England, he removed one of the unicorns and replaced it with a lion.

Unicorns also possess incredible healing properties of a very high vibration.

“A typical example of unicorn healing is the day I was about to record our first magical unicorn meditations for children cd. We only had a few hours to record on this particular day, and a very good friend was footing the recording bill. That morning, I awakened feeling very unwell with a really sore throat. I went in to have a chat with my spirit guide and for the first time in twelve years, he smiled broadly, and with a sweep of his arm, welcomed a unicorn called ‘Silver’. The unicorn’s horn began to glow and as he walked up to me, he bent his head and pointed his horn at my throat. It felt like it was going right inside my throat, a pure healing light, and my throat chakra started to throb. It was a very emotional experience, and within ten minutes I realised my throat was no longer sore, and I was able to do the recording in one take. I suspect with the help of the unicorns.” said Laura.

Unicorns are here and willing to help. More than that, they actively want to help change this world we inhabit, for the better. Whilst Diana Cooper, Doreen Virtue amongst others are working predominantly with adults, Lunicorn feels its own particular route is with the children. Children believe in unicorns, and have not yet been tarnished with cynicism. Lunicorn’s task therefore is to preserve that wonder, that innocence, that belief that anything and everything is possible by simply believing it is. The girls behind Lunicorn aren’t just talking the talk, they’re actually walking it too, and in so doing, offer an ideal example of the success of creative visualisation and trust in the power of the unicorns.
