To find true happiness open as many doors as possible, and if they don't work out, then simply shrug your shoulders and open some more!

We may come in all shapes and sizes but fundamentally we are all alike. Each of us is seeking the same things in life – health, happiness, success and true love. Some people achieve this. They are no different from you or I, but they somehow manage to have it all. It’s as if most of us are playing a game without knowing the rules. In order to win this game we have to learn the rules. I am going to teach you these rules. I am going to show you exactly what to do, it won’t hurt (well not too much) and better still it will not cost you a penny!

The first rule is very simple, but not so easy to put into practice. You must resolve only to tell the truth. Like I did, you may have fallen into the trap of telling people what you think they want to hear. Little white lies may seem harmless, but I assure you they are not. How many have you told your boss, your partner, your family and your friends? One lie breeds another and before you know it you are all tied up in knots and afraid to even speak in case the truth slips out. Why not cut through all that? You don’t have to tell the brutal truth, but you can be honest without hurting anyone – all it takes is a little bit of tact.

This can seem a daunting prospect at first so I recommend you introduce yourself to this new concept very gently with only small truths to start with. Every honest answer you give is a step towards living the life you really want. After a while, the small truths become second nature and you will be ready to move on to the things that really matter to you.

Next, we arrive at the life changing truths. Do you really want to work in that job? Do you actually like those people you hang around with? Is your relationship working? Whatever happened to all those bold dreams you started out with? Gradually, you realise that by being truthful, particularly to yourself, you begin to make the changes in your life that are long overdue.

The second rule is less tangible to grasp. You need to begin relying on your instincts. At first, they will be very rusty because you have not been using them much. However, with a little practice, they will become invaluable to you. Decisions will be made effortlessly. All you need to do is focus on the problem at hand and then pay attention to how you respond physically and emotionally to the different courses of action which are open to you. In general terms, if you feel an anxiety in the pit of your stomach, then this is a sign that you are probably making a bad decision for you. On the other hand, if you feel no tension in your stomach and instead feel a sense of calm and clarity, if you find that you are smiling and feeling excited at the prospect, then this is a clear sign that you are making the right decision.

I know this may sound a bit silly to some of you, but in practical terms if you avoid situations and people that make you feel anxious and tense, and replace them with those that make you feel calm and comfortable, then you really can’t lose. Time is precious, don’t waste it. I guarantee if you use your instincts to guide you, then you will get where you are going a whole lot quicker.

The third and last rule will probably stretch you a little. I call it “opening doors”. You need to speak up and let the world know where to find you. Have confidence in yourself, and take a few risks. I have really stuck my neck out there on numerous occasions, and although a lot of the time it comes to nothing, every once in a while when you least expect it you hit the jackpot.

Speak up for yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Introduce yourself to new contacts, tell them what you do and how well you do it. Opening doors can seem a little intimidating at first, but really it’s not – in fact after a while it becomes more fun than you can ever imagine. You will reawaken your dreams and you will allow opportunities into your life. Open as many doors as possible, and if they don’t work out, then simply shrug your shoulders and open some more. Behind one of those doors is the future you always dreamed of and the good news is that none of them are locked!
