Since the time of Jesus and other healers, people have sought healing for their minds, bodies and lives. The Bible writers were careful to define the varied types of sickness and disease with great care. Palsy, epilepsy, haemorrhaging, deafness, muteness, blindness, lameness, those with mental illness (lunacy) and of course demonic possession. Nowadays however, the wording has changed for many of these ailments or afflictions, but people are still very much in need of help and healing just as they were then.
I believe in miracles… the little ones that occur every day and some spectacular ones that only occur now and again. I believe that when you are cured by normal medical means by a gifted surgeon, it is no less a miracle than the huge spectacular ones that happen supernaturally.
Of course I also believe that personal belief and faith, either in yourself and your recuperative powers, in the person treating you, or in the actual power itself, has a very important part to play in whether you heal or not. In the gospels, there is a recorded case of the street beggar who was blind and was asked by Jesus whether he wanted to be healed. For Jesus knew that by being healed the man would likely have to give up begging and ‘work’ for a living!
The woman with the haemorrhage was a different kettle of fish. She desperately wanted and needed help and had faith in Jesus’ powers and she was instantly healed. A good number of years ago I watched a very interesting programme on the brain and mind over matter. A group of patients agreed to a test on recuperative methods via hypnosis. The test was to examine whether undergoing hypnosis could stimulate and accelerate the healing process in the body.
Two groups of patients were selected. One group were given hypnosis, and in the case of one patient with severe burns to his body, his healing was amazing! The other group were given a sugar pill and their recovery was much slower than the group that had received the hypnosis, therefore bearing out the premise that mind over matter has a basis in scientific fact!
When it comes to alternative healing methods, it seems that the medical profession is split into two camps. Those who think that there is a place for other methods (and some doctors actually practise things like acupuncture, hypnotherapy etc) and those who believe only orthodox medicine is the true system for patients. The latter are generally closed minded individuals who generally pooh poohs any methods or treatments that involve intangible, ‘non-scientific’ means.
I personally believe there is room for both and if a method works for some people with tangible, recordable results then where is the harm in that? Even if the effect is only palliative rather than completely curative to those in pain, surely it is worth considering, after all, we sometimes take a Paracetamol now and again which only offers temporary relief.
I recently visited a lady for a personal reading and noticed she had a stair lift installed and a special ‘walk in’ shower because she had severe back pain. After I gave her the reading, I asked her if she would like some spiritual healing for her back. She said yes, so I applied hands on treatment. I’m pleased to say that the following week I telephoned her asking how she was, and she reported to me her back pain was gone and she felt great!
It is very uplifting and gratifying to healers like me to see an improvement in people who suffer discomfort or pain. For us it is a ministry…a calling if you like. The problem with people like me is, we would like to cure all people of all their ill- and there’s no magic wands I’m afraid! Sometimes too, healing just does not take for whatever reason. Again I believe there are many factors to consider. Healing that comes from outside the physical realm cannot be turned on like a tap and there are many reasons why a person cannot be cured. Sometimes it is their time to suffer as part of the karmic lesson they have chosen.
I know that sounds cruel- I remember David Icke being lambasted as being a heartless, cruel person for stating that on television a few years ago, but the truth is, sometimes it is simply not our time to be healed and is time to prepare ourselves for our journey home.
Today there are as many therapies as there are needs. We have Reiki and Sekhem, to name but a few of the various healing treatments available. Whether it is healing of the body, the mind or even our lives, as in the case of people who are addicted in some way to either habits or substances that harm them or diminish them, there are healers out there working hard to alleviate or cure the problems and these are found within and without hospitals.
Healing comes in many forms. It is up to us to avail ourselves of that wonderful power that is there for us if we believe!
